Sutureless Explanation of BrightOcular Cosmetic Color Iris Implant with One Cut Technique
Tal Raviv MD, FACS
Unstudied and unregulated cosmetic iris implants, such as the original New Color Iris, and now the Bright Ocular implant have been shown to cause severe ocular morbidity in multiple published case series. They are marketed to change the color of the eye and are being implanted in countries outside the EU and USA. Ocular injury can be mitigated with prompt removal of the implants at the earliest sign of endothelial compromise, prolonged iritis, PAS, ocular hypertension, or cataract. There are multiple removal methods, but the silicone BrightOcular implants need to be cut inside the eye before explantation. This one cut technique allows for safe explanation of the implants through an unenlarged 2.75mm corneal incision.
