During the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) annual meeting in LA this year, EyeWorld interviewed Dr. Raviv about his presentation in one of the featured symposiums on ‘astigmatism management during cataract surgery’. Dr. Raviv discusses the latest advancements made in the past half decade in what he calls “The Age of Astigmatism Enlightenment”.

These include:

1: Accounting for posterior corneal astigmatism – both by formula, pre-op measurement, and intra-op measurement

2: Using centroid value of 0.1 for surgically induced astigmatism

3: Accounting for long term astigmatic drift from with-the-rule to against-the-rule cylinder

4: Allowing axis flipping
