Dr. Raviv Presents at 2019 Surgical Summit
Dr. Raviv enjoyed participating as invited faculty at the 2019 Surgical Summit in Park City, Utah Jan 31 – Feb 2.
In addition to talks about complex cataract surgery, femtosecond laser technology, toric, and multifocal IOLs, Dr. Raviv discussed the importance of informed consent with refractive cataract surgery patients electing advanced lens implants. Dr. Raviv discussed three important points he likes to make sure patients understand regarding advanced technology IOLs:
First, patients must understand that we cannot eliminate all glasses all the time, though we try to come close.
Second, some of the multifocal and enhanced depth of focus IOLs may create some visual phenomenon, especially around lights at night, though these have significantly diminished with the latest models.
Finally, with a higher bar of minimizing glasses at the time of cataract surgery, a second enhancement procedure may at time be required – whether that’s rotating a toric IOL, performing an IOL exchange, or a laser vision correction (such as LASIK or PRK) to perfect a result – fortunately, at Dr. Raviv’s practice he stated that’s needed less than 5% of the time.
